total no. of ways to pick a man=30c1

total no. of ways to pick a woman=30c1

total no. of ways to pick both man and woman=30c1*30c1=900

Since there are 30 married couples no. of ways to pick a married couple =30c1

therefore no. of ways to pick a man and woman who are not married=900-30=870

there are 30 married couples, not 15 couples

oh!! yes.. sry i should edit the answer

Let me add one more way. Select a man and then woman and ensure they are not married. selecting man can be done in 30 ways, then selecting woman who is not wife of previously selected man is 29 ways. So no of ways = 30*29 = 870 (Product rule)
