pmax returns an integer not smaller than any of its arguments. What does this statement exactly mean?

suppose pmax(1,2,2,1,3) ..Does it mean that pmax will  always return the  value greater or equal to all of the arguments or will it return a value greater than or equal to some of its argument?

It means pmax() won’t return a value lesser than any one of its argument.

In your example pmax(1,2,2,1,3), it won’t return 1 as 1<2 or 2 as 2<3. But it can return 3.
